July and August is peak time for peaches. Here in Canada, the Okanagan (in British Columbia) is renowned for its sweet, succulent, summer peaches. Indeed it is! They actually have a town named Peachland.
Peaches are totally the beloved fruit of all of my Okanagan summer childhood memories. Last year, I got to renew some of those childhood memories when we spent a few weeks there during peach season.
We took a tour of the local farmer's orchard and learned that peaches are actually part of the rose flower family, along with cherries, plums and almonds.
Peaches are also a high-antioxidant food that have anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
This Peach and Avocado Sunshine salad is perfect for summer. It’s light, refreshing and simple. The sweetness of the peach complements the avocado. It's perfect as a side dish to a main meal. Serve it with grilled fish or chicken or just eat it straight up with a spoon! Yum!
