I'm slightly obsessed with smoothie bowls. Not only are they delicious, they are a creative outlet. I mean, look at how much fun you can have designing the top. It's a smoothie bowl piece of art!
Since cherry-picking season signals the beginning of summer and I was able to find some frozen dark cherries in my local grocery store, I created a dark cherry smoothie bowl this morning. As I approached the checkout to pay, there were these colourful tulips. I just couldn't resist!
Cherries are loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols that fight disease, as well as vitamin C and fiber. They're also a natural food source of melatonin, which can help improve your sleep. So good! Cherries are fairly high in natural sugar. So as is the case, with all smoothie bowl recipes, I wouldn't recommend eating them every day. But for a once a week smoothie bowl splurge, this recipe is simply divine!
This dark cherry smoothie bowl is topped with cherries, coconut flakes, almond slices and raw cacao nibs (another superfood) for a sweet, crunchy breakfast. But feel free to get creative with whatever toppings you have on hand.
Simply add 2 cups of frozen pitted cherries with 1 banana and 3/4 cup of coconut water to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie mixture into two bowls and evenly divide your favorite toppings between the two servings.
